Hayhurst was a graduate of Payette High School and received his college training with a B.A.degree from North Idaho College of Ed. and a Masters from the University of Idaho. Tim won letters in basketball and baseball while in college before starting his outstanding teaching and coaching career in 1949.
He coached at Winchester and Clearwater High School before moving into administration at American Falls as superintendent for 11 years. In 1970 he became director of admissions at Idaho State, before taking over as superintendent at American Falls, until his retirement in 1987. Hayhurst managed state tourneys for 20 years, for nine years he managed the state high school football playoffs, and still aids in the management of the annual high school Milk Bowl.
Hayhurst has received many state and national honors including the National Football Rules Committee including Dick Fleishman Memorial Award for activities work, Superintendent's Service Award, Fifth District Distinguished Activities Award, and was inducted into the IHSAA Hall of Fame in 1989. Hayhurst served on the Fifth District Board of Control, and seven years on the IHSAA Board of Control.
Tim has been a member of the Lions Club for 26 years, an Elk for 39 years and belongs to the Phi Delta Kappa and Phi Beta Sigma Educational Honoraries. A life member of the PTA he continues to take an active part in the welfare of the youth of Idaho. His civic duties include eight years on the American Falls City Council and 11 years on the Library board. Tim and His wife,Sylvia, are proud of their family, son, Mike, daughters Mrs. Jim (Debbie) Tiede, and Tami Elfring, and six grandchildren.
This great community-minded citizen continues to serve his state and the fine educational system he helped to foster, along with his outstanding athletic background serves him well as we welcome Tim Hayhurst to the Idaho Hall of Fame.
