George was born in Culdesac, Idaho in 1904. He played basketball and baseball at Culdesac High.

The first year he was in high school there was no gym so the team practiced in a classroom. He played the same sports at the University of Idaho where he was a teammate of fellow North Idaho Hall of Famer Sib Kleffner. Payette High School was where he began his teaching and coaching career. From 1933 to 1941 he coached all three team sports at the Lewiston State Normal (now Lewis-Clark State College).

In 1941, he joined the coaching and physical education staff at Idaho. After two years in the Navy during World War II, George returned to Idaho as Athletic Director. In 1951 he went on the staff of U.S. Senator Herman Walker of Idaho. He retired in Moscow and followed the Vandals for the rest of his long life. George passed away in 1998 at the age of 94.
