A formidable boxer at 127 pounds, Frank Kara was an NCAA national champion in 1941 and a Pacific Coast Conference champion in 1940.
He helped the University of Idaho boxing team earn the school’s first two NCAA team titles in 1940 and 1941. Kara’s 1941 national title was special because his brother Ted Kara, who competed at 120 pounds, also won a championship that year. It was the first time in NCAA history that a combination of brothers had won NCAA titles in the same tournament.
