F.J. "Packy" Boyle

Packey Boyle was a beloved member of Vandal Athletics, serving as Idaho’s head athletic trainer from 1954-68.

He was recognized professionally at the highest level as a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame. In addition to his work with the U of I, Boyle also served as the trainer for the U.S. ski team in 1950, and later was the head athletic trainer for the 1960 Olympic Winter Games at Squaw Valley. In a 1968 article about his pending retirement, he said of the many honors and awards he received in his lifetime he was most proud of being an honorary member of the University of Idaho Alumni Association. Boyle also served in the Marines and saw action in France during World War I, but returned home to finish high school and set about on a career of tending to others.
