Dave Fealko was born in Mullan, Idaho, April 9, 1947 to John and Elbjorg Fealko. He was a member of the Mullan High School State Champion Basketball team. He lettered his freshman year in basketball at the University of Idaho and graduated in 1970.
He began his teaching and coaching career in 1970 in Palouse, Washington before accepting a position with the CDA School District where he taught and coached until 2005. During his career he coached the CDA Viking girl’s basketball team from 1978-1994 until he went over to the Lake City Timberwolves girl’s basketball team. He coached at Lake City from 1994-1995 and then again from 1998-1999. Dave took his first team to the State Tournament in 1982-83, laying the groundwork for what would become one of the top programs in the State. Twelve of his final thirteen teams qualified for the State Tournaments. Collectively his teams won five State A-1 championships, with on undefeated year in 1994, along with one runner up trophy, two third place finishes and one consolation trophy. His final coaching record was 320-125 (.719).
He was a member of the North Idaho Official’s Association in both basketball and football and was inducted into the North Idaho Officials Hall of Fame.
Dave was a member of the first group inducted into the Idaho High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. He was named Idaho Coach of the year at the North Idaho Sports Banquet. Dave was also part of the 1965 Mullan High School Basketball Team “Legends of the Game” honored at the North Idaho Sports Banquet.
Dave retired in 2005 and lives with his wife, Patsy. They have four children, Chad and wife Amy, Kristi and husband Ezra, Tracy, and Jeff and wife Michaela. They have been blessed with three grandchildren: Sophia, Gavin, and Francesca.
