Born in Spokane 66 years ago, and raised in Burke, Idaho, Bill has carried a brilliant career in coaching and officiating throughout these years with great class. A three-sport star at Wallace High School, Bill then had an illustrious career in basketball at the University of Idaho and was co-captain of the 1940 Vandal cage team.
His coaching career took him from Ferdinand and to state championship team at Craigmont, then he moved to Wallace High School in 1944. He left the coaching ranks in 1 948 and had been in the plumbing business until his retirement. The early 50's brought Bill into the ranks of officiating. He helped form the North Idaho Officials Association, serving as president for two terms. During his busy life, Bill also found time to coach basketball at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Wallace. He also was involved in baseball programs from Little League through Legion baseball.
During his high school officiating days he was selected to officiate 3 2 state tournaments. Bill was honored in 1983 as one of the eight officials receiving honors by the National Federation of Interscholastic Officials. These honors came for both basketball and football officiating. Bill has served as president of the Wallace Jr. Chamber of Commerce and also served two terms as Councilman for the city of Wallace. Bill and his wife, Eleanor, celebrated 45 years of marriage this past January. The English family also includes one son, William, who now lives in Las Vegas.
